My Insanity Has A Name: NaNoWriMo

Good morning everyone! As you can tell from the title, NaNoWriMo is one my mind (I gave up on my sanity years ago:) ). For those of you that don’t know what NaNoWriMo is, its official name is National Novel Writing Month and is a yearly event where writers of all ages and skill levels come together to write a 50k book during the 30 days of November. For me, it’s the perfect kick in the pants I need sometimes to stop making excuses for certain projects.  That leads me to my plans for this year.

Writing 3

For better or worse, I’m planning to work on three novels this year. That’s right. I’m hoping to write 150k for NaNoWriMo 2014. I’ve even figured out my writing schedule (Given how I can’t stick to an outline, this should prove very interesting). Since I handwrite, it usually takes me two to four hours to write a chapter of ten to fourteen pages ranging from 2500 to 3800 words. If I’m really moving, I can write five pages an hour, so, going by those estimates, I will be attempting to write twelve hours a day with an hour break between each run to rest my eyes, brain, and get some food.

I know, you’re sitting there saying I’m (colorful adjective) crazy and/or stupid. As much as I’d like to, I can’t argue with you on that. You see, my muse never stops with ideas and three in particular refuse to go anywhere even when I write them down so I figure why not and work on them all? I’ve mentioned my machine mode before, so it is very possible I can pull this off. The biggest problem will be losing my mind, but since it ran off years ago, I have nothing to worry about.

In all seriousness, I know this is going to be an extreme test for me and that’s why I want to attempt it. I love to push myself and this gives me the perfect opportunity to do that. Now, do I honestly think I’ll succeed? Nope. I’m prepared to finish with as little as 60k written, but that doesn’t mean I’m not going to go into it with every intention of pulling it off. I can be extremely stubborn and hate to fall short of my goals so I’m crossing my fingers, stocking up on sleep and coffee, and getting the fingers loosened up for all the writing coming my way.

This is my insane endeavor, how about you? Do you have any particular idea you go into NaNo with to push your limitations?

About CP Bialois

Where do I begin? Well first I guess it's only fair to say that CP Bialois isn't my real name. It's a collaboration I made out of the three greatest pets anyone could ever want. My real name is Ed and I'm just an average person that has found a way to do what he loves. For as long back as I can remember I loved to pretend. Whether it was with my Transformers, GI Joe, or He-Man toys I loved to create intricate plots and have them fight it out. As a fan of horror, science fiction, action, and comedy I dare say my taste in movies are well rounded. Some of my favorites were Star Wars, Star Trek, martial arts, and anything with Swarzenegger in them. I'd write my own stories about the characters I saw in the theaters or TV or I'd just daydream about what I'd see myself as the hero of course. You can't have a daydream without beating the bad guys, getting the girl, etc. It's just not right to envision yourself as a flunky or sidekick. As far as books I loved Sherlock Holmes, Treasure Island, Dracula, and the normal assortment. My early love was the Star Trek novels, I'd read them or the Hardy Boys relentlessly. For a time I could tell you the plot of over a hundred books not to mention comics. I have to come clean and say that I learned to read because of comic books. I was bored, make that extremely bored when we started to read in school. Reading "the cat fell down" really didn't interest me. My dad, who continues to astound me with his insight to this day, figured comics would work. With that in mind he went to the newstand in town and bought issues of Donald Duck, Scrooge McDuck, Tales From the Crypt, and Spider-man. He patiently read through them with me until I picked it up. Whether it was him or the comics I learned to read in about two weeks and for a while few were as good as I was. For years after that whenever we'd go out he'd always spring for a couple of comic books for me. While it wasn't exactly the perfect beginning everything I've ever read or have seen has influenced me in some way and now is the time I'd like to share some of the ideas I've had over the years with all of you. I hope you enjoy my stories, they're always fun to write and I don't see myself stopping anytime soon.

  1. Good luck! Your schedule looks tight and I admire you for setting it for yourself. I had hoped I would have finished my 3rd book by mid October but I only finished it today, so I’m already 2 weeks behind schedule. So, no nanowrimo for me. Keep writing and keeps us posted on your progress!

Thanks! This should be an interesting year. I’ll definitely keep you posted. It sucks you won’t be taking part, but there’s always next yeah. Good luck with your new book. 🙂

I will be jumping into the insanity as well, although I don’t plan to do as many project as CP. LOL. Hey, I have some sanity left. 🙂 Either way, I am so excited to see how the whole month (and project) plays out. I’m already pumped to go to the write-ins. Just have to wrap up a few things before November 1st.

How many of you take part, or know someone who does? Would love to hear about it! Until next time…

  3. I hate and love this time of the year. My problem this year is the first 6 days of the month my writing time might be off kilter due to events I have going on with a conference and writer’s retreat. You know I only enter to win. LOL.

As always I will decide a day or two before if I am going to do it.

    Good luck.
