Hero at Heart
Sam stood staring down at the body of his friend. Tears burned his eyes, but he couldn’t make himself look away.
Their twenty-five year friendship played through his mind, bringing both pleasant and unsettling memories.
I thought we were supposed to have our lives flash before us.
No consolation came.
Snuffing back some tears, he wiped his jacket covered arm across his eyes before turning to leave.
As he made his way along the path, he took solace in the peaceful look his friend wore. A far cry from the ravenous, snarling visage of the wolf he’d worn minutes before.
