Best of Surprises
Julie sat at the kitchen table staring out the window and into their backyard.
Though the snow-covered yard was empty, she could hear her son playing when he was younger. Those were happier times, and why she refused to move days after receiving the news.
If she moved, Randy would be dead.
Here, he was alive.
She jumped when a hand touched her shoulder. Turning, she gasped. “Land sakes, Randy. What are you doing here?”
Her son smiled at her. “Hi, Mom. Mind if I join you?”
“But, I thought… you’re dead?
“So? When have I listened to the rules?”
