Good morning and welcome to this week’s Poetry Corner! Please join me in welcoming Vic Tomlinson!
Thanksgiving Day by Vic Tomlinson
I look forward to our
gathering at Thanksgiving.
It’s fun to talk to friends,
neighbors, and coworkers
about their plans for Thanksgiving Day.
We watch parades on TV
in the morning, especially
the Macy’s Day Parade.
Then there’s football in the afternoon
with either the Dallas Cowboys
or the Detroit Lions.
The turkey is in the oven,
the dressing is almost ready,
the cranberries look too good to eat,
and the pumpkin pie is still baking.
In the late afternoon or early evening,
we sit down to give thanks, eat,
and celebrate this special day.
It all seems to happen so fast
and then it’s all over.
That feeling of emptiness descends on me.
Perhaps one should look outward to help others
on this day, rather than just oneself.
Awesome poem, Vic! Giving back is something we should all consider doing if we’re able. 🙂
