Mittens stretched, digging her claws into the soft comforter and pulling herself up. She took a second to look around, but nothing had changed. So much the better.
She jumped off the bed and headed for her food bowl. She sniffed and made a face. She hated the dried food her human insisted she eat. Turning from the bowl, she headed for her favorite perch by the window.
She stopped in horror at the doorway.
“Hi, Mittens. Meet Tiffy, your new sister.”
The kitten mewed as she tried to grab a dangling string.
“Isn’t she adorable?”
Mittens narrowed her eyes.
