The world continued moving outside Todd’s window.
The birds fluttered about the birdbath, fighting for their preferred spots. Each bird was unique in their attitude, but one in particular caught his attention.
A lone sparrow missing a couple of tattered wing feathers banked and landed on the bath’s edge. The others ignored him as they continued playing and bathing, allowing him to go about his business. He ducked and wove his way through them like a prize father.
Todd turned his wheelchair from the window, wishing he had the sparrow’s courage, then sharing the bird’s loneliness wouldn’t hurt so much.
