Good morning and welcome to this week’s edition of In the Books, featuring The Wilted Periphery by Charles Lominec.
About the Book: The burdens of the crown weigh heavily on King Czarel. The Assembly of Sorcery is in upheaval after the murder of their most powerful member and when a renegade wizard hatches a dragon to use as a pawn. Half-man/half-wolf savages, from another world, invade through weakened boundaries. An other-worldly fiend launches a scheme to provide her with an unlimited supply of cranial culinary delights. Will Czarel’s magic sword, paramour with powers of healing, and loyal allies be enough to fend off the threats coming from the edge of The Wilted Periphery?
My Review: The story is fast-paced and engaging as we’re thrown into a world of wonder and chaos. It begins with the murder of a wizard that sought to create a life to serve him and ends with a life in an effort to bring peace, bringing things full circle.
The characters are familiar and easy to understand their motives. The cool thing about this is it doesn’t detract from the story but adds to it and helps the flow remain steady, quick and engaging.
